Resort Wear

Hawaii was the perfect destination to relax and unwind from our everyday hustle. We spent 10 days in Maui participating in effortless activities, such as floating down a lazy river, sipping Mai Tais and reading mindless romance novels poolside.

I spent the bulk of my vacation in various cover ups, such as this Mikoh Roma dress. I wore this dress on many occasions, including happy hour at Merriman's, which was one of my favorite spots to dine and watch the sunset.

Stay tuned for more resort looks from Layla and me in the Aloha State!

Spring Forward

Hitting you with a quick post from Hawaii. This spring Layla is channeling stripes and apricot hues; while I am gravitating towards neutral tones.

I can't wait to share some of my favorite shots from our vacation, which is going by too fast. We have had a blast splashing in the waves, floating in the pool and soaking in the sunshine.

Q&A with Book of Leisure's, Elizabeth Kimbrough

-->
Styling yourself with a baby bump is no easy task, especially when you are well into the third trimester. Book of Leisure's author, Elizabeth Kimbrough, pulls off the next to impossible; at 38 weeks Elizabeth looks as stunning and flawless as ever. I decided to get the inside scoop on what this Southern Bell has been doing during her pregnancy. In our interview she shares with us her beauty routine, the best advice she has been given, and her favorite registry items.

1. What was the inspiration for starting your blog?

Book of Leisure originally started out as a blog to document my life as a newlywed, over the following months though I found it taking more of a direction toward personal style. Today it is pretty much a combination of the two, especially here lately documenting our journey as becoming first time parents:)

2. You are an expecting mom, so I have to ask what food have you been craving ,if any?

Haha, how about everything?! Seriously, name something and at some point I've craved it. You know the old wives tale-sweets for a girl, salty for a boy? We had no idea what to expect since I was loving both! {We later found out we had a little boy on the way}

3. What were/are your top three must haves on your baby registry?

The Baby K'tan Baby Carrier-This is more affordable than many other popular popular options out there and the fit is suppose to be incredible. I've been told this is a great carrier for newborns since they can be wrapped up so tightly, helping them feel secure while mom can carry on with what she needs to get done.
Little Giraffe Blanket- The softest, comfiest blanket ever. You will love wrapping your bitty in it and want one for your own!
Fisher-Price My Little Snugabunny Bouncer- When I first began registering my sister told me to be sure to add a good vibrating bouncer. I've read endless praises of this bouncer...can't wait for little boy to snuggle up in it:)

4.  As far as maternity wear what is an item that every expecting mom should invest in?

A great pair of maternity denim. You will wear these more than anything, so you want to get jeans that you will feel great in. I found a couple of pairs at Gap that I've absolutely loved.

5. What has been the best advice you have received during your pregnancy?

I was told to really savor this time with my husband. It's the last time it will be just the two of us. So go to a movie, go to dinner, have fun!

6.  What is your favorite trend for spring 2014?

I've always gravitated towards bold prints and lots of color, which is why I was thrilled to see it incorporated into so many clothing lines this spring.

7. What beauty product have you had in heavy rotation as of late?

My biggest beauty investment here lately has to be my tummy cream- StriVectin SD {aka-magic in a bottle}. It is pricier but I knew I didn't want to play with the risk of getting stretch marks. At 38 weeks, not a mark in sight!

Baby Street Style

I have a true appreciation for street style blogs. Images depicting real life application of trends are a far better resource than a magazine shoot, which requires a production team, models, and mad photoshop skills. This is why I am happy to report Street Style has transcended into kids wear at Ladyandgents. This site is all about showing off little fashionistas. Plus all images include links to featured clothing, making it simple for busy moms to purchase the look for their child.

Lesson Learned

I made a rookie mistake, one that I still carry with me, literally. I bought a brown Chanel bag; It was my first Chanel purchase and I made the exchange in person at their Rodeo drive store. I was 24 at the time and I spent my first bonus check and then some on the brown bundle of joy.
  A few months later I was gingerly skimming Vogue online and I read something that caught my eye.  A big wig editor commented and I quote “Chanel doesn’t do brown” the article went on to say that you should never invest in a brown Chanel handbag. His comment did not fall on deaf ears; Chanel embodies class, style and sophistication in which case Black is a more suitable choice.
Don’t get me wrong I am not above sporting my brown bag, but it is a lesson learned and a lesson I am happy to share.  Better to learn from others mistakes, rather than making them yourself.
